Hi there,
This is a book review/reflective writing for my chemical dependecy class.
The assignment instructions are below. I have also attached a PDF copy of the book called “Beautiful Boy”.
The paper is to be written through a social worker lens.
Directions: In addition to your textbook readings, you will have the opportunity to read a book of your choosing that discusses the hard reality of addiction, who it affects, and the journey people take. The final book review paper should reflect on your personal and professional reactions to the book and how it may help you in the field of social work and addictions treatment.
Format: The final book review paper should be no more than 6 pages, Times New Roman 12 point font, and double spaced.
Outline: The book review should incorporate the following components:
1. Introduction: Bibliographic information (author, title, date of publication, publisher, number of pages, type of book). Complete a brief overview of the theme (drug of choice and/or issues portrayed by the writer), purpose and your overall evaluation of the book. Give your opinion about the book. Is the book easy to read or confusing? Is the book interesting, entertaining, instructive?
2. Summary of the content: Summary of the key points of each chapter or group of chapters. Reflect on the story being portrayed and what parts are important to understand or remember as a social worker and discuss this. Reflect on the ACE risks and protective factors, how are these incorporated with the story being told?
If this were your client: What would your preliminary diagnosis be? How would you address treatment planning? Are there any ethical issues you can foresee? What kinds of therapy would be most beneficial and why? What techniques might you use and why?
3. Evaluation and conclusion: How does this book parallel to the social work field in addictions? How can you implement parts or use learned information to further your career in social work? What are the book’s greatest strengths and weaknesses? Who would you recommend the book to and why?
***I have a attached a PDF copy of the book, as well as a document containing a link that will give you a brief description on ACE Risks and Protective factors which are asked in question #2. please message me if you have any questions.
