3. Guidelines for Write a scientific report:
i) TITLE:
ii) INTRODUCTION: In your OWN words (DO NOT copy the paper) write in paragraph describing WHY the experiment/investigation is being performed:
a) Give general background for the study using information from reference sources. Make sure to include citations.
b) Explain the purpose/goal of the study.
c) End with a couple sentence summary of what you were specifically testing and how it was generally tested.
iii) Hypothesis: You should have a clear section of your report after your introduction with the heading hypothesis. You need to write your hypothesis based on what authors are testing
iv) Procedures: You should start by listing all the materials and methods that were used in the experiment and/or you should list what was done to perform this experiment.
v) Results, Figures and Tables or graphs: You should compile the results provided into table(s) that are clear and easy to read. You need a detailed, informative figure or table caption describing what each result represents. You are welcome to include pictures from the provided results and cite the source of the picture but do not add in the videos. Following your data portion of the results section, you should have a written summary of the results in paragraph form stating the key points of the experimental results.
vi) Discussions and conclusion: In your discussion section make sure to include the following points:
a) Discuss whether results support your hypothesis..
b) What overall conclusions can you draw from the experiment? Explain what results lead you to draw these conclusions.
v) References: You need to include at least THREE credible references in your introduction section. Using APA format, you need to include a full citation for each reference in your reference section at the end of your report. Failure to cite your sources internally and at the end of your report will be considered plagiarism and will result in an Academic Honesty Violation. Here are some examples of citations:
Include an in-text citation when you refer to, summarize, paraphrase, or quote from another source. For every in-text citation in your report, there must be a corresponding entry in your reference list. Use the following guidelines to determine how to correctly cite works by one, two or multiple authors IN TEXT (like in Introduction).
One author: (Field, 2005)
Two authors: (Gass & Varonis, 1984)
Three or more authors: (Tremblay et al., 2010)
For citation in your Reference List follow the Important Elements:
Author (last name, initials only for first & middle names)
Date of publication of article (year and month for monthly publications; year, month and day for daily or weekly publications)
Title of article (capitalize only the first word of title and subtitle, and proper nouns)
Title of publication in italics (i.e., Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Newsweek, New York Times)
Volume number in italics and issue number, if given
Page numbers of article, if given
Do not use URL in the reference.

Tips: Make sure you give a overview of the topic (if it is a disease or disorder – include symptoms & potential treatment) – if it is a therapy or treatment discuss why it is used/performed. You must write in your own words and paraphrase information from the selected information sources, addressing each of the questions for your chosen topic. Your paper should consist of less than 10% direct quotes. Your paper should be in double spacing and 750-1500 words, excluding references and title page. Use APA style for references.
