Compose an essay addressing two or three specific aspects of the play and how they contribute to an overall theme or the overall work itself.
Example topics: The plot format- major events that occur and their significance
*The characters- do specific characters embody a specific theme or representation? How is that theme/ real presentation developed?
*Important elements- staging and stage directions and how they help to convey the meaning of the character’s actions/ motivations.
*Themes that occur throughout the drama and how these themes are developed.
*Type of play- what type of play is this considered? How is this developed? Evidence?
You will structure your essay the same as the literary analysis – intro, thesis statement, at least two well-developed body paragraphs with textual evidence, and a conclusion. Go back and review the literary analysis outlines for fiction and poetry to get an idea of structure.
So, in short, you need to have the following things in your essay:
introduction with thesis statement as last sentence (literary/dramatic devices you’ll discuss and theme)
at least TWO WELL-DEVELOPED body paragraphs with textual evidence from the play (don’t forget to answer the “so what” and “why” of each point)
a conclusion
Essay must be at least 600ish words in length
Please review MLA format – you need a works cited page for this essay also.
