Use the materials we’ve covered in the second half of this course: lectures, documentaries, discussions, and
articles. You need to cover the Greeks/Romans; Judaism, Christianity, Islam, the religions that Christianity and
Islam replaced, African religions, and the Maya.
To figure out how these religions were similar and how they were different, you must use these categories of
analysis:
Origins / development
Practices / traditions
Beliefs
God/gods/other spiritual entities
Social and political
Other categories you want to discuss
• You probably won’t be able to use every religion for every category; our course is too short to offer that
type of depth. For instance, we don’t talk about the origins of the Greek gods or African religions, but we do
cover the origins of the Abrahamic faiths, so for the origins/development category you could focus on
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Make connections and point out the significant differences within these
categories.
