Write a critique of the essay in which you respond to the writer’s logic, rhetorical strategies, and conclusions. Your main goal is to assess what the author’s purpose was in writing and how well he or she achieved that purpose. Possible questions to consider include: How effective is the writer in conveying his or her point? What aspects (if any) of the article do you agree with, and why? Given those agreements, was the author successful in changing your mind on the subject? If not, why not? Are there any logical fallacies? What has the writer failed to consider? A successful critique will demonstrate that you have read the essay carefully, have thought about it rigorously, have recognized the strategies that the writer uses to convey his or her message, and that you have made independent judgments about this particular writer’s work. Note: Your critique must have a clear thesis summarizing your response to the article, and I strongly encourage you to support your opinion with a little outside research.
