As you reread Conventions of Fairy Tales, AND the Perrault Version of “Sleeping Beauty,” AND the Grimm Version of “Sleeping Beauty,” AND the Perrault Version of “Cinderella,” and the Grimm Version of “Cinderella.”, consider themes that you find interesting. Themes you might discuss include independence, obedience, love, innocence, evil, greed, supernatural elements, social expectations, sexuality, identity, deviance, etc. Select at least three specific themes you would like to examine. These should be common to both “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella” as you are trying to prove that evidence of these themes is there.
Write a separate sentence for each theme, arguing that the theme is present in the works. For example, “Innocence is a key theme in both ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Cinderella.’”
Beneath each corresponding claim sentence, list at least three examples from the two different fairy tales (using the multiple versions). These examples should identify character actions, dialogue and lyrics, perceived symbols, etc. that you believe illustrate each theme. (See class example provided.)
Identify the audience and historical context of both versions (one paragraph, based on class discussions; no outside sources needed).
Compare and contrast the moral(s) of the two fairy tales. (one paragraph)
