Short Answer Responses
The following questions is your opportunity to tell us about you. We encourage you to take your time on this assignment. Be open, reflective, and honest. Your response will help us understand more about you and is one of many factors that we consider when making our admission decision. Please answer the following questions succinctly but with enough detail for the selection committee to fully evaluate your statements.
1. Please speak to your interest to become a nurse. (250 words maximum)
2. SMU is committed to training students in the importance of social determinants of health and how to care for patients from diverse backgrounds with integrity and compassion. In your own words, please define “diversity” and explain the different ways that have you demonstrated a commitment to multiculturalism in your own life? (500 words maximum)
3. What experiences have you had that contribute to your interest in nursing (for example, paid or volunteer healthcare experience, community involvements or life experiences)? (250 words maximum).
4. The ABSN program is accelerated. In what ways are you prepared to excel in the fast-paced, academically challenging 12-month curriculum? (250 words maximum)
5. Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your application that might not otherwise be readily apparent? For example, if you had a particularly challenging academic term/s in college, you may want to share some of the challenges you have encountered and how you overcame them? Or, if you were exposed to an especially positive or negative experience that solidified your passion to become a nurse, you may want to share that. (250 words maximum)
