Statistics Technology Exercise

Words: 304
Pages: 2
Subject: Uncategorized

As with the Chapter 4 Technology Exercise, this exercise will also use a simulation, this time to estimate the probability of an event and can’t easily be directly calculated.

In the Chapter 4 assignments, you were asked in a couple of places to determine the probability that among a group of n random people no two share a birthdate, which could be done directly. You were then asked to determine the probability that among a group of n random people at least two share a birthdate. This second event is the complement of the first, so the probability can also be calculated.

You will be completing the “Technology Project” at the end of Chapter 4 (pages 181-182), which asks for the probability that among a group of 50 random people at least three people share a birthdate, which will require a simulation.

You will organize each group of 50 values in columns. Be sure that you use “Paste Values” to create your additional groups of 50.

In your columns, highlight any sets of at least 3 from each group that share a birthday in yellow.

There is a second part to this assignment beyond what is stated in the text. You will answer the same question for a group of 100 people. Open a second worksheet and repeat the process used above for groups of 100 people.

In both cases, type the probabilities requested directly in the appropriate worksheet.
