Send a brief introduction + outline before march 21, 2pm, the complete essay should be sent before April 1st
Please review all the documents that i attached and pick one topic.
In this essay, you should find one or more exhibit sources related to any topic adjacent to what we have discussed in class and contribute an original interpretation of that source by using the argument sources we have read this semester. Exhibit sources may include news articles, court cases, scholarly publications, etc, and your topic of analysis can relate to any subject of conversation in our class, including, but not limited to, religious accommodation, religion and social equity, defining religion in US law, or sincerity. The essay should use texts as exhibit, argument, and background sources in accordance with the BEAM method and provide interpretations that find support in the material we have covered in class. In other words, unlike essay 1, this assignment asks students to offer their own original analysis of a source text. The essay should be a minimum of eight double-spaced pages in length and utilize appropriate argument sources that we have read in class, although you may choose to do external research into other argument sources as well.
TIPS:
1. Remember Bizup’s Rule of Thumb: “If you start with an exhibit, look for argument sources to engage; if you start with argument sources, look for exhibits to interpret”
2. Find an exhibit source that aligns well with some of the readings you found most interesting throughout the course.
3. If you choose to use a scholarly publication as your exhibit source, I suggest finding a publication with which you can disagree on some point(s) and offer important counters based on the other scholarship you have read.
