the various factors that affect who a person is and how they become that person. You will write
your sociological autobiography.
The main goal of your autobiography is to explain how you decided to go into the field of health
care and what has made you the person you are today. Tell your life story—where you came
from, how you got where you are—using the sociological concepts covered in this course to
explain your life.
Include the following variables:
Social class
Status .
Gender
Race/ethnicity
Religion
Role
Primary and secondary groups
Anything else that is relevant to who you are
Be sure to answer these questions:
How do these sociological variables contribute to who you are today?
Do you feel you would be a different person if any or all of these variables were changed?
Which variables and specific events in your life have resulted in your decision to work in the
field of health care?
Which of the sociological perspectives covered in this course do you hold with respect to
health and medicine? (Select one of the contemporary sociological theories covered in this
course/textbook.) Explain your choice. How does this perspective explain why you chose to
go into this field?
Your paper should be approximately 1,000 words in length, double-spaced, and have a clear
introduction, body, and conclusion. List your references at the end of the paper in standard
format and use in-text citations where applicable.
You may use your textbook and other reliable sources as references.
