Purpose and essential questions: Why is it important to look at an issue from different perspectives? What determines who should be listened to about an issue?
1 watch the video
2. Follow the processes demonstrated in the video for your own issue / area of focus.
Who? List stakeholders and their interest/concerns. Be specific : Whic government agency makes decisions or influences policy related to your iussue? Which community group of Milwaukee ans is most affected by or interested in your issue? You need at least 3-5 specific stakeholder groups in order to developyour expertise in the complexity of your choosen issue.
How? Which subject areas does each stakeholder group work in, or which subject areas have researchers who might represent that stakehollder group’s concerns? Use UWM Libraries databases by subject to think of subjects.
What ? What genres / type of sources might each stakeholder -group create?
Where? Where do stakeholders publish? How can we access their publications?
3. Determine which audience you will address in your white paper. It’s a good idea for this to be one of your stakeholder groups
4. Make a decision about which subject area you will search to identify resources for your audience.
5. Navigate to databases by subject and select the subject area you decided to focus on .
6. Select an appropriate database using the descriptions and “Best Bets” box. Click on the database name and try a keyword search using words from your issue and/or the interests and concerns you listed in step 2. You may need to try multiple databases to get results that look useful. Chat with a librarian if you encounter any roadblocks.
When you are done, write a response that includes:
A list of your stakeholders, their interests/concerns, and subject areas
A brief justification for why you selected the subject area you decided to focus on. How does incorporating (the perspectives of specialists in) that subject area help you invent your ethos?
The title and author of the most promissing source found through your database searches
who are stateholders?
