As you’ve seen, ethics refers to the desirable and appropriate values and morals of an individual or group of individuals. Theories on ethical leadership focus on the actions and behaviors of leaders as well as personality and characteristics essential to leadership. Therefore, an ethical leader will drive and influence their subordinates towards a common goal while also treating subordinates with dignity and respect, influencing organizational values, and communicating with honesty. When senior leaders act unethically, the organization loses its motivation and sense of purpose. The structure of the organization is influenced, organizational culture is impacted, and performance is derailed.
