Words: 313
Pages: 2
Subject: Uncategorized

The population I chose was student of color who identify as LGBTQ

Format: BB submitted in Word Document (or similar) assignment
Grading: These are the key things I’m looking for in this paper :
(1=needs improvement; 2=adequate; 3=excellent)
Appropriate article/research selection (fits topic, up-to-date, peer-reviewed or high quality research):
Well-supported content (use of research/literature to support definition):
Quality of critical thinking in the writing (attention to nuances in population):
Mechanics (effective writing style, attention to grammar and sentence structure, attention to APA guidelines):
Synthesis/themes (effort to synthesize findings/research into clear themes with clear analysis):
Details: This assignment has two main parts. First, you will carefully define the population chosen for your paper. Second, you will in bullet format outline 3 key themes and the citations that will accompany those themes for the environments section of your paper.
Definition of population. Citing at least 2 articles or reports you have reviewed, first define your population and describe the basic trends you can find related to the population (e.g., first generation college students, LGBT students, nontraditional students, veterans, Latino/Latina students, African American male students), especially nuances that may exist in your population. I invite you not simply to use your intuition but specifically cite the research showing how scholars or perhaps governmental agencies/policies define the population. How does the current research define your population? What are the debates in how the population is defined? Second, describe trends you have found related to the populations’ college attendance, graduation rates, and/or demographics.
For example, you might examine who are the students in this population demographically? Are there common characteristics for the students as they enter college (e.g. X% of those in this population attend college or over XX% of college students are from the population)? What do we know about the student group empirically as they enter/choose college?
Annotated bibliography. The purpose of this bibliography is to require your careful review of contemporary, peer-reviewed articles that will contribute to your writing/thinking in your final research paper. After conducting research, you select four of the best or most fitting articles for your population and area of interest. Read articles thoroughly and create this annotated bibliography. This bibliography should include the following
Correct, APA-formatted citations for four peer-reviewed research articles published since 2000 related to your population (if they don’t exist, you’ll want to ask me and the library for help at least two weeks before the assignment. If they still don’t exist, then we’ll assess whether you need a new topic).
For each article, include in your own words (use very few quotes) the following key features:
The main purpose of the research/article – no more than 2 sentences
The research methods and sample – no more than 2 sentences
Key findings – no more than 4 sentences
Optional: Your evaluation: No more than 2 sentences on the strengths and weaknesses of the article and how you would hope to use it in compiling your final paper.
This bibliography will likely be no more than 3 pages, and shorter is often better as succinct reviews showcase clear focus on key ideas. An example is here: https://davenport.libguides.com/apa/annotated
