Your initial post should be a minimum of 250 words
Respond to Peers :
Respond to Peers
Review your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by Day 7. Each peer response should be a minimum of 50 words.
In your peer responses, consider sharing
Feedback or helpful tips about your peers’ evaluation of the scholarly source.
Additional adjustments your peers could make to increase the effectiveness of the reading strategy they chose.
An important part of your learning involves the exchange of ideas and feedback with your peers and instructor. It is also tied to the participation and critical thinking components of your earned discussion grade. In your responses, share ideas, explore different perspectives, and think critically about your classmates’ posts.
A post from one of my peers :
Explain what makes your scholarly source an authority for your Wikipedia stub article subtopics.
The author of my scholarly source has a Ph.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Comparative and International Education. Her degree aligns with my subtopic because I am looking into the benefits of boarding schools and how boarding contributes to the “less fortunate.” According to section 4.4 in our textbook a Ph.D and using .org in the article are ways to tell whether an article is a scholarly source, I would consider this an academic journal as the main focus is educational research.
Explain how the information from the article is relevant to your subtopics. Include specific information from the article that would demonstrate relevance.
The information from my article is relevant because it focuses on the benefits of sending a child to boarding school, it talks about what boarding schools have done to help the African American community as well as those who did not come from the best backgrounds. The article talks about the fact that boarding schools are a more controlled environment which allows the students to focus on their learning.
Discuss the overall strength of the article. Is it appropriate for your subtopics based on your evaluation? If your article is not appropriate, explain what your next step will be.
The overall strength of the article is the amount of citations it has at the end of the article and throughout the paragraphs as you are reading, this shows me that those who have contributed to this article had the knowledge to successfully inform others of the information that is provided. I feel that the article is appropriate for my subtopics as my subtopics are about day school and boarding schools which is discussed a lot throughout the article, and also gives other background information that I may not have even considered important in my research.
Provide an APA Style-formatted reference for your scholarly source at the end of your post.

Describe how using the selected reading strategy impacted your reading of your article, and what adjustments you might make to increase your efficiency in the future.
The selected reading strategy impacted my reading because I was able to read the abstract part of the article and the conclusion of the article to determine if the article was relevant to my research. This allowed me to save a lot of time as I did not have to read majority of the article to then find out that the article was not relevant to the information I was trying to find. Some adjustments I may make is making sure that I am focusing on all parts of the discussion after determining that the article is relevant to the information that I am looking for, this will allow me to process more of the information and better my understanding of the article.
Because this is a discussioin post which is 250 & the Response is 50 words I put it at 300 words for the order
SECOND ASSIGNMENT DUE SAME DAY:

Reflect
As human beings, we all have biases that affect our perceptions and ideas. According to von Winckelmann and Garcia (2021), “a bias is a tendency to view something in a particular way” (p. 52). Take some time and reflect on your own biases. Do you have a favorite restaurant, sports team, author, or information source? How does that affect your perception of them and the conclusions you draw? In this discussion, you will reflect on confirmation bias and explore its impact on your daily life and the research process
Write
Describe a situation in which you or someone you know has demonstrated confirmation bias.
Discuss two steps based on the assigned reading and video that could minimize the effect of bias in the situation you described.
Explain why it is it important for scholars to be aware of confirmation bias during the research process. Include how this awareness is important to you as you seek information for your own research.
Your initial post should be a minimum of 150 words and is due on Day 3 (Thursday).
PEERS RESPONSE: In my life, I have run into plenty of instances where I encounter myself or someone else experiencing confirmation bias. Often times it is because it’s what fits their political label. One recent example is the gas prices in America. A few people in my circle of friends/family are dead set on the claim that our current president is the sole reason gas prices are as high as they are right now. While that may have some justification, there is plenty of obvious proof that it is not the case. I’ll refrain from getting into it because that’s not what this discussion is about and I’m not trying to argue politics in the classroom.
Using what we learned from the book, we can seek evidence on all sides to draw a conclusion that is as unbiased as possible. In today’s terms that can be as simple as turning on the other news channel, not just the one that you prefer. It could also mean looking into doing your own research independent of mainstream media and drawing your own conclusions instead of the ones someone else made for you.
During the research process, it is important to be aware of confirmation bias because it can skew your work too far to one side and become inaccurate. I will personally be using this awareness as I research the B. B. King Museum because I am very fond of his work, but I cannot allow that to present the museum in a more favorable light than it should be.
