STEP 1:
First, choose a podcast you would like to analyze and listen to at least one episode of the podcast. I have provided a link in this module titled “Podcast Suggestions”.
I recommend choosing one of the suggestions listed for secondary listeners. I want to give you the freedom to choose something you will enjoy listening to, especially since this is a college-level course.
Choose any podcast you like, from my list or from your own recommendations.
If you encounter content that makes you uncomfortable or that you feel is inappropriate, you can contact me and I can help you make a better choice.
All of the podcasts provided at the link provided are generally appropriate but some episodes may cover sensitive topics. I recommend reading episode summaries for possible trigger warnings.
STEP 2:
Next, once you have chosen your podcast and episode, do a little bit of research on the podcast and the type of topics they discuss. Then, listen to the episode while taking notes on all of the elements we have discussed in the class so far:
– SOAPSTone
– Rhetorical Appeals
– The Elements of Creative Non-Fiction
STEP 3:
After listening and taking notes, write a rough draft of an analysis.
Start your draft by introducing the podcast and then provide a brief summary of the episode you chose.
Discuss any relevant elements relating to SOAPSTone, rhetorical appeals, and/or the elements of creative non-fiction.
Again, you don’t have to discuss all of the elements, but you should at least discuss a few that you find relevant.
End your draft by evaluating the episode. Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? (pacing, story-telling, topics, tone, etc)
