Write a paper for the first session and present it at the podium soon after Livingston. Your paper should
focus on a thorough defense of the right to rebellion as developed by Locke. Your job is to draw on
Locke’s arguments to explain why the Intolerable/Coercive Acts are the epitome of British offenses
that justify revolt, and demonstrate that violent rebellion is the appropriate next step should the Asso-
cation fail (see in particular pp. 123-131 of the game book). Start by exploring how particular British
actions have infringed upon the basic right to property, thereby destroying what Locke viewed as the
basis for civil society and granting colonists the right to partake in violent rebellion. You are free to
mention that the Association, which seeks to apply nonviolent economic pressure, is mild and mod-
