Discuss the following in your essay:
Was America justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan in order to bring about Japanese surrender? (Discuss American and Japanese casualties that had occurred prior to Truman’s decision to drop the bomb and projected casualties that could occur in the event America had to invade the Japanese mainland, along with Japanese opposition to unconditional surrender.) After reading the assigned articles and understanding the consequences of a delayed surrender and of dropping the bombs, would you, personally, have authorized their use? Why or why not?
