As part of your pre-work for this assignment you are going to make professional looking powerpoint slides. Death by powerpoint is a real issue, so we are going to practice how to make clean, professional, and very readable slides. This is a skill that you need as a public health professional, no matter if you are educating the public or pitching a new program to your division you will need to make slides during your career.
For this, you are going to design your powerpoint deck. Here are some tips and tricks of making slides. You will be evaluated on the following items:
Readability- Limited number of words, enough white space, and flow of information
Professional layout- You are using professional fonts, images, bullet points
Content- You have a title slide, you include 2 peer reviewed sources (don’t worry about the hanging indent and reference slide doesn’t count), all three levels are covered.
Step 1: Pick the division below, then pick ONE topic that that division is focusing on. Such as the Substance Use and Abuse Devision focusing on increasing education for individuals who use cannabis. You cannot pick something that is not listed below.
Infectious Disease Division focusing on: reducing gonorrhea rates or increasing influenza vaccine uptake.
Maternal and Child Health Division focusing on: increasing use of prenatal vitamins, increasing childhood vaccination rates for the MMR vaccine, postpartum depression.
Substance Use and Abuse Division: focusing on increasing access to safe injection supplies, increasing education for individuals who use cannabis, and educating high school students on substance use.
Step 2: Do some research. Find at least 2 peer-reviewed articles of interventions that work that you are proposing to use. For example, on the intrapersonal level, I will focus on changing knowledge about cannabis use by using tailored health messages. I would cite this study in support (You need to find your own sources, do not cite this reference):
Wotring, A., Paprzycki, P., Wagner-Green, V., Wygonik, Q. R., Blavos, A. A., Kruger, J., … & Glassman, T. J. (2019). Primary versus secondary prevention messages: College students’ perceptions of effectiveness by marijuana user status. Journal of American College Health, 67(8), 743-752.
Step 3: Build your slides
Essentially here are the slides you should have:
1. Title Page- Professional title, your name
2. Level 1
3. Level 2
4. Level 3
5. Conclusion
6. References
