Genre Reproduction and Analysis (MOVIE POSTER IS THE GENRE)

Words: 586
Pages: 3
Subject: Uncategorized

Part 1: Genre Reproduction: (creating your own movie poster) and then working on part two. IT HAS TO BE YOUR OWN MOVIE POSTER. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
This is the more creative part of this unit. Now that you have completed your Genre Samples Analysis assignment, you will write your own sample of the same genre. If you analyzed a certain kind of poetry, such as a sonnet, now you will write a sonnet. If you analyzed two samples of hip-hop lyrics, now you will write hip-hop lyrics. Could you write a novel for this? I doubt you have the time!! If you’ve always wanted to write a novel, though, you could use this assignment as an opportunity to write your first chapter. If you choose the genre of a video game, you probably won’t have the time or resources to actually create a video game; instead, you will create a “design plan” for a video game. If you choose a really short genre, like haikus, you will need to create a series of Haikus (at least three). Don’t worry about being “perfect” at writing this genre – just do your best and try to have fun! I will not be grading you on creative/artistic abilities, though I want you to try your best at creating your own version of this genre. Attempt to utilize the conventions of the genre you mentioned when writing the Genre Samples Analysis assignment to make your sample as authentic as possible. There is no page requirement for the reproduction portion of this assignment because the genre length will depend on the genre you’ve chosen, but there is a second part to this assignment that will need to be at least one page in length (explained below).
Part 2: Reproduction Analysis:
This analysis should be at least a full page of writing and address the majority of the questions below:
Now you will analyze your sample of the genre, clearly showing how your reproduction utilizes the conventions you discussed in the Genre Samples Analysis assignment. Explain how you used conventions (or perhaps were being unconventional) in your own reproduction of this genre. How does your genre sample compare to the samples of the genre you analyzed? What is your target audience, and what kind of effect were you trying to have on your audience? What is most challenging about writing in this genre? You should quote and/or reference specific parts of your reproduction to help you make your points.
You’ll also want to draw some overall conclusions and demonstrate you have a solid understanding of this genre you have been studying. Be specific and detailed about the conventions associated with the genre, and use the reproduction you made and two or more samples that you studied in the Genre Samples Analysis assignment to help you explain these conventions. What conventions are essential to and/or commonly associated with your genre? What are the typical goals/purpose of this genre? To entertain, enlighten, inform, persuade, etc.? What techniques/conventions do authors tend to use when writing in this genre to reach their audience and achieve their goals? For instance, someone creating a webpage must think about how to make the content as “readable” as possible, so font and layout are really important; an author of a resume must take employers into account when deciding on the best language to use, as well as organization/structure (do you put your school information first or your employment? Where do you list references? Etc.).
Note: you can download many student examples of this Genre Reproduction and Analysis assignment in the Unit 3 Additional/Recommended Resources section.
