This final project will allow you to utilize many of the terms and concepts that you have examined throughout the semester. The discussion case studies, the discussion prompts and videos provided you with the necessary understand of the Correctional Probation Parole System. This project will allow you to use research data to support Criminal Justice Policy development. You will be examining cultural beliefs surrounding morals, values, crime and criminal justice system. This project will also allow you to examine ethical decision making and appreciate how crime control and due process dictates policy and procedure in the Correctional System. Finally, this project will allow you to exercise your critical thinking skills and logical reasoning to create a program that would hypothetically improve the Correctional Departments of Probation and Parole.
This project is designed for you to present authentic work. You can be as creative as you like, while supporting your creativity with peer-reviewed scholarly articles, government websites and educational/rehabilitation resources.
You are a consultant for the Department of Probation. You have been asked to develop a program to address the unique and specific issues that are present with the special population on community supervision. As a consultant, you have managed to research top facilities around the world and have developed several programs based on your research for what is effective and efficient.
This population includes:
Mentally Ill
Drug Abuser
Pregnant Mothers
Women,
Juveniles,
Gang Members,
The Elderly
Transgendered Individuals
Sex offenders
Those with Medical Issues (Cancer, AIDS, HIV)
Undocumented
Requirements
Choose one of the Special Population. This choice should be based on interest and desired to learn more about a special population. Create a 10-15 slide PowerPoint or Prezi Presentation that covers the issues of your selected population. The issues include needs, risks and assessments, housing, treatment, recidivism, etc.
Create a program to address the specific needs of your selected population and that is best suited for them. You must use current research (1-7years) to support your program development. You can research other programs in Florida, the United States, and other countries. Find programs, treatment services, and academic journals that address your selected population. Once you locate these programs, services and journals examine to find what works best. Keep in mind recidivism rates and success rates. Then create a program of your own design based on your research that would improve the lives of your selected special population.
It is a possibility that you will be delivering your program idea before the class, who will act as probation experts. Be prepared to answer questions and defend your program. I will confirm before Midterm if this will be a requirement for this assignment.
PowerPoint Requirements:
Length: 10 to 15 slides (excluding the cover slide and the APA formatted reference slide).
Design:
You can use any presentation format: Prezi, Adobe Spark, Google Slides, Keynote, etc
Be sure not to overcrowd your slides with information.
Be thorough, but also be concise.
Use bullet points to highlight main points.
If you use graphics, be sure to condense them, so your presentation is not too large.
You can also include a original program video
Mechanics: PowerPoint does not require that you write full sentences or paragraphs; in fact, this will detract from your presentation; however, your ideas must flow logically, and your points should be presented in a consistent format. Check your spelling and use standard American English.
You should consult at least three sources in preparing your presentation. Your last slide should be a reference slide following APA format.
