You will choose (and submit your choice for approval by the due date) a topic from the list provided. You will also prepare a 10-15 minute presentation to the class. Only one person may choose a specific topic. All papers must be properly cited (include footnotes or endnotes AND bibliography) using Turabian or Chicago style formats. All papers must have a clear thesis statement. See the handouts on writing in history in the papers module. All papers must be submitted BEFORE the start of class on the due date via Canvas. All papers must be a minimum of 8 pages, excluding any bibliography, endnotes, or title pages. You must use Times New Roman 12 point font. All papers must use at least three additional secondary sources and at least three primary sources, in addition to your use of the textbook and any class readings. All sources must be acceptable academic sources. Your secondary sources must be academic (peer reviewed)journal articles accessed via the library or academic, scholarly books. An encyclopedic article is not a peer reviewed scholarly source. If you are not sure if a source is acceptable, ASK! You are required to turn in parts of the paper for peer review throughout the course of the semester. These are noted on the course schedule. Both the submission of these parts and the peer review are graded.
