We have read an overview of the laws that have a significant influence on the issues that impact adult domestic relations. In our discussion ,we are going to take a look at whether there has been any changes in the laws that affect domestic relations. We are going to learn from each other in our discussion this week. I am going to leave it up to each of you to select the topic from domestic relations to explore this week. 1) Select one topic that interests you from our reading this week. Some ideas: spousal support, division of property, orders of protection, same-sex marriage, separation proceedings, divorce proceedings, termination of marriage, common law marriage, civil unions, putative spouses 2) Look at your (KY) state law on the topic that you selected. Summarize the law that you found. Were you surprised by what you found? Why or why not? 3) Based on the State law on the topic that you selected, as a social worker in adult domestic relations, what knowledge would you want your client to have? 4) Google your topic, in the last 5 years have there been any changes in the law or attitudes toward your topic. If yes, what were they and if no, what changes should be made? 5) Find one source on Battered Woman′s Syndrome. Cite your source. What are the current beliefs behind this defense? What do you think next steps should be in the recognition of this syndrome?
