Write a paper about “hospital acquired pressure injury”. As an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, the patient population I serve are mainly affected by this issue. HAPIs, also known as pressure ulcers, are localized injuries to the skin and/or underlying tissue that are acquired by the patient during an inpatient hospital stay. HAPI develops as a result of pressure, shear, or both, and is also linked to other variables such as advanced age, immobility, perfusion, nutritional status, hematological measurements, sickness severity, and diabetes (Rondinelli et al., 2018). Despite years of research, pressure ulcers remain a significant source of pain and delayed healing for patients, as well as significant quality and cost challenges for hospitals. To improve risk assessments and subsequent nursing actions aimed at minimizing hospital-acquired pressure injuries, existing thinking about pressure injury risk must be assessed. Patients who develop a hospital-acquired pressure injury are 2.8 times more likely to die during their stay in the hospital and 1.69 times more likely to die within 30 days after discharge, as well as to have substantial pain and suffering, delayed functional recovery, and a longer hospital stay (Tschannen & Anderson, 2019). Nurse practitioners need to understand the impact of hospital-acquired pressure injury since, in many cases, we function as primary care providers, caring for and preventing these injuries. Pressure injuries have an impact on our patients’ well-being and their stage of life, as well as the healthcare costs. Early recognition of the modifiable causes of HAPIs and taking corrective measures right away can aid in preventing the development of a pressure injury or stop its progression before it becomes too severe. During their stay in the hospital, nearly 1 million patients in the United States suffer from a pressure injury (Tschannen & Anderson, 2019). My recommended change would be the obvious, which is to lessen the number and occurrence of hospital-acquired pressure injury. Continuous risk assessment, evaluation of casual factors, execution of prevention methods, and selection of an appropriate usage of pressure relieving devices are all required for prevention. When a patient is identified as being at risk of pressure injury as a result of an assessment, treatments should be implemented right away.
