Disaster preparedness is about having an established safety plan. Whether it’s preparedness for floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, strong thunderstorms or fires, the key to survival in disasters is planning. Everyone should have an individual preparedness plan for themselves and/or their families. Are you prepared? In the past couple of years, during our Fall semesters, we have either been directly impacted or been on alert for a major hurricane. For this assignment, prepare a disaster preparedness plan. Your plan should include what items you would need to include in an “emergency preparedness kit” and other circumstances you would need to consider. For example, a student was the primary caregiver to a relative who was oxygen dependent. Power was out for extended length of time and residential area flooded impacted emergency access to their home.
