You must include the terminology to describe the different steps in the creation process as well as terms used to describe the design elements. Also include how the object was used upon completion.Portraiture. Many artists entered the field by painting portraits of wealthy families and significant public figures. In your essay compare and contrast 3 different artists and how they represented individuals in the Colonial, Federal and/or Neoclassical periods. In your answer note the formal elements of each style and the unique approach of each artist. Elaborate on these historical factors then incorporate the works of art you are discussing into the discussion in the following way:Paragraph #1Discuss the work of art using terminology and elaborate on its importance visually (describe types of materials (are they significant) formal elements – colors, lines, shape, design etc.) and then connect back to the overall theme of the essay. Make sure you weave in your first examples so the essay flows in a cohesive way and you don’t have a series of mini essay that aren’t connected.Paragraph #3Transition to third work of art (example) noting similarities and differences then discuss your third work in relation to its purpose and the historical/cultural events that affect the work, then go into a formal analysis.
