There is always a push to eat more organic, fresh food or avoid fast food… but what about financial constraints? Communities that have no grocery store within a five mile radius? Large families or working parents who live their lives on the go? What about the continuous onslaught of marketing aimed at making sure we′re craving the cheesiest, crunchiest, or most chocolatey treats we can find? Food choices are very rarely about choosing this or that… For our second research essay, you will reflect on your food choices and what affects those choices. Write about the options available in your community, the options that make the most sense for your budget, your family, or your lifestyle, write about factors that affect your access to food and how that assess affects your choices. Consider what food means to you culturally and/or socially, and what contributions those aspects make on how you feed yourself and/or your family. Consider the reading assignments, and do SUPPLEMENTAL RESEARCH exploring social, economic, and/or political themes that affect food and food choices for you and those in your community. Here are the details: Essays should introduce your approach to food choices and options as it relates to your direct experience, lifestyle, and community. Then, present supplemental resources that support and/or explore the choices you make or have made as it relates to food. You can also explore food′s importance to our society, life, or culture, and discuss how and why our food industry engages with you and others in the ways that it does. Be sure to avoid the essay missteps detailed in our supplemental text (CHAPTERS 7-9 in SWWE). All essays must include a clear thesis statement that leads well-developed, clear, and cohesive body paragraphs toward a strong, compelling conclusion. Research is required. Essays must include the cohesive, appropriate application of at least FOUR dependable, quality sources (books, eBooks, articles, websites, journals, magazines).
