Discuss on how “The Keystone Pipeline will spew a massive amount of carbon pollution into our fragile atmosphere, It should be stopped” this is a quote by Jill Stein. The Keystone Pipeline is helpful in some ways, such as transporting fossil fuels. The Keystone Pipeline is unhelpful in some ways because the material is exceptionally flammable, and hundreds of gallons are spilled every day in the United States. Some would argue that the risk of finishing the pipeline is outweighed by gains. Although some feel that the Keystone Pipeline wasn′t a terrible thing for the environment, one can argue that it is harmful to the environment. It is clear that the tar sands oil that will be piped through the Keystone XL is some of the most corrosive petroleum ever used. This means that the oil that would pass through the pipeline would eventually wear down the inside of the pipes and lead to catastrophic oil spills. The text states, “That means an average of 200 barrels, or 40% of a “serious incident,” are spilled every day in the United States.” It is common knowledge that these types of spills cause damage to wildlife, agriculture, and society′s supply of drinking water. It is particularly dangerous if the leak occurs near streams. Others must agree that the material they use is flammable so just a little malfunction can have the material go up in flames or leak out. This means that it could easily have a malfunction and ignite a little patch, which could end up leading to tragic circumstances. The passage states,”Even if the natural gas or crude oil transition is successful without leaking, the material is exceptionally flammable.” Given the right drought conditions, an oil fire could easily be a large forest fire. These fires would inevitably destroy wildlife, property damage, and in danger human life. Everyone knows that oil is essential to maintain everyday living in the United States. While it may be true that pipelines are efficient at transporting oil; Nevertheless it turns out that being efficient is not as important as protecting the environment. The passage states,”It also shows that there is the potential for harming the environment more than we already are.” Some may argue that the Keystone Pipeline will create thousands of new jobs for our country however, most of these jobs will be minimum wage jobs. The text states,”2 out of every 5 workers who work an oil industry job work for the local minimum wage at a fuel station.” In conclusion, it is vital that we put the environment first and find other resources that are safer for the environment. Like clean energy sources such as the wind, sun, and water to produce energy. Some may claim that the pipeline would boost our economy and create many jobs; however many jobs would also be created by transitioning to electric vehicles and charging stations. One could argue that the pipeline is not harmful for the environment; however, studies have shown that it is harmful. It is time for our generation to take a stand against big oil companies that are only interested in making profits; while the environment and all of the creatures of our land pay a heavy toll.
