You are to prepare answers for these questions. When taking the exam, you will be presented with two of these questions, you wont know which two, and answer them both with good, coherent essays. Each essay should be between one-half and one full page of double-spaced text, at least. However, you must answer each question fully so if you want to use a little more space, thats perfectly fine.
1) How prevalent has slavery or some form of it been in world history? What were the three types of slavery in Africa as defined by historian Patrick Manning? What percentage of Africans came to the British North American colonies and what percentage went to Brazil?
2) What were the settlers in Jamestown hoping to find, how did they think they would survive? Only consider the years before 1610. What happened to eventually put the Jamestown settlement on the road to success?
3) Describe the Whig theory of politics and the political philosophy of John Locke. What was different about the radical Whigs?
4) Describe the build-up during the 1760s towards the outbreak of the war. This means discuss the various laws parliament passed, and the various incidents of the early 1770s.
5) What did John Adams mean when he said that the war which started in 1775 was not the revolution? That the revolution occurred in 1764?
