After exploring the demands of the causal argument, students will develop and support a claim (key assertion) for a narrowed topic falling under one of the following broad themes: This argument aims to persuade a reading audience to accept an explanation of causes OR consequences and will be built upon information drawn from credible sources. An organizational plan is provided below to assist with effective presentation of the information. The thesis statement for the Causal Argument should look like one of these: Focus on Causes Because of A, B, and C (reasons), X causes Y. Focus on Consequences/Effects Because of A, B, and C (reasons), X is a consequence/result of Y.
