— Critically evaluate strategies used within an organisation to promote and support the health and well-being of children and/or young people — Develop an appropriate opportunity for promoting the health and wellbeing of children and young people in their own work context 1. demonstrate the acquisition of appropriate capabilities relevant to the specialist subject area. 2. use terminology associated with the subject area accurately and in a way which demonstrates knowledge and understanding. 3. analyse and apply key ideas and concepts relevant both to the subject area and to professional practice in the field. 4. use techniques of analysis, synthesis and argumentation as is appropriate to the subject matter, relating this to workplace contexts and developments. The Children′s Home is a new start up and currently has two children – one boy who is 12 and a girl who is 15. Ratio is 2 staff to each child. Both children attend school outside of the home. The company currently has a high staff turnover at present due to the complex behavioural needs of the children and individuals often come into the home/ job with little to no experience /qualifications and knowledge of what the job will actually entail. Currently have an ′acting-manager′ until the new appointed home manager starts mid march. Things to consider when writing the critical piece: •What does the organisation actually do (is it the same as what it says it does?) •When, where and how does it happen? (does it actually happen when and how it is planned, if not why not…) •Which children actually take part, and is it appropriate/beneficial for all the children involved? (Does the organisation assess this?) •Do different individuals, teams and groups of stakeholders agree on the approach(es) taken, and the effectiveness of them? •How well does the organisation respond to some of the things that you have learned about inequalities in health from your literature review? You need to develop your understanding of the reasoning behind what happens, the evidence used by the organisation, and evaluate it. To make your assignment manageable, you can either focus on the whole organisation (if small), team or department (if a larger organisation), or take one particular aspect of safeguarding children’s health and wellbeing that the organisation is involved in. Confidentiality will need to be preserved throughout by anonymising the organisation and individuals (e.g. by calling it Business A, Setting A or Person X). There will be further discussion and guidance during taught sessions about strategies for ensuring confidentiality of individuals that you may wish to refer to in your writing.
