Pockets of both LGBT people and cisgender-heterosexuals, typically white and middle-class, have raised issues that Pride events are not always ‘family friendly’ or that some sexual or queer tones are a bit ‘extreme’ for a general audience (e.g., kink or fetish scenes). Additionally, some believe that Pride events can get more corporate sponsorships if they make LGBT cultures more palatable to a mainstream audience. As a result, certain groups have called for the ‘toning done’ of the less mainstream LGBT subcultures. make sure to define and apply the concepts of heteronormativity and homonormativity.
