Option #1 (from Trenholm, Chapter 1)-Aristotle believed that an effective rhetor must
utilize ethos, pathos, and logos in equal measure. However, most speakers today only utilize
one or two of these proofs of effective rhetoric. In constructing your essay, think of a speaker (Martin Luther King Jr.)
whom you admire. Does her or his power to persuade come primarily from ethos, pathos, or
logos (or some combination of the 3?)? Define and evaluate the use of each of these proofs
generally and then provide specific examples/analysis to justify your evaluation of the
speaker you admire
