Political sanctions are one of the many risks of global business. It has been 60 years since JFK signed the trade embargo against Cuba on February 7th, 1962. The consequences of the Cuban embargo have been immense, and it continues to be a hotly debated issue to this day.
Considering the most recent developments in the relations between the United States and Cuba, do you think that the trade embargo on Cuba should be permanently lifted? Why or why not? Suppose that you are the head of one of the several sugar mills in South Louisiana. You have been offered the opportunity to joint venture with a group of small-scale sugar farmers in Cuba to help grow their business (and yours as well). Do you capitalize on this opportunity or back out because the risk is too high?
