What is a review? It is a form of writing which provides an overview of a texts main ideas, highlighting your perspective about the texts theme and key areas of the text that are relevant to and which reflect your view. Promotional reviews of new books or films are often written as a way to present the strengths and weaknesses of a work. The review you write will have a similar form: youll explain your overall perspective about how Sethi engages with your chosen topic. Youll support your perspective by presenting textual evidence, and explaining how the details of Sethis writing reflect your ideas.

In other words, the purpose of this writing assignment is to develop a close reading of Sethis text. Your review is expected to begin in the first 1-2 sentences with a clear, focused statement explaining your perspective about the topic you have chosen to write on. From there, develop your perspective by explaining how the details of textual evidence (quotations) support your perspective.

In our classes leading up to this assignments due date , we will learn more about how to develop our review about Sethis text. We will discuss: close reading and analyzing textual evidence; MLA format; grammar and sentence structure; and details of Sethi’s text help her express and represent her message.

You are not expected to write an introduction paragraph. In your first sentence, start your assignment with your perspective about your topic. Directly following this in the same paragraph, develop your perspective with your supporting ideas, and begin your close reading and analysis of textual evidence.
Your assignment is required to contain at least 2 paragraphs. You are free to expand your discussion in more paragraphs than this, but try to stay within the length requirements of 750 words.
In total, your review is required to present and analyze at least 4 quotations from Sethis text.
To build your perspective, you are encouraged to expand on your explanations of textual evidence, and you are free to analyze more quotations than are required.
Try to edit your sentences for conciseness. Try to remove any unnecessary words, repetition and vagueness from your writing.
Grammar, spelling, formatting, MLA citation style and clarity all make up a significant portion of your mark.

You must have in-text citations for quotations, paraphrasing, summarizing, and any ideas from another source that you refer to. Quotations must have quotation marks around them. Your assignment must have a Works Cited listing all sources you have included in your review and/or consulted.
