The Good Life – Personal Reflection Assignment
After having read Wallaces commencement speech, and maybe even watched this dramatized video with Wallaces original audio recording of it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC7xzavzEKY), you will now have the opportunity to respond to it in a personal way, in a short written reflection that captures your reactions and takeaways from it.
Choose one of the following options, and write a 500 word response that articulates your own personal ideas about what constitutes living a good life:
1. What to you most constitutes how to live your best life? In other words, what is the most fulfilling way to live, and how can you feel most fully human?
2. Wallace says the most meaningful way to live is ___, but I say it is ___. Write a rebuttal to Wallaces speech in which you either disagree with his central point, or expand on it in a unique way that demonstrates your approach to life.
3. To what extent does Wallaces speech embrace or depart from the your own view of the world? Bear in mind that the speech was delivered at a public college, so it would not be appropriate for him to give a speech that was from one particular worldview. Think more about the underlying principles of Wallaces speech and whether they uphold or diverge from your own worldview.
