Note the interplay between image and sound. What sounds have been selected that the film maker wants to define his/her world with? Which sounds are diegetic and which are not? What’s the role of the sound effects and ambience? Have sounds been altered in any way? What purpose/effect might there be in the alteration? Does there seem to be effects growing from how the film maker combines and layers these selected, altered sounds? Are there instances of sound bridges? What sonic world has the film maker created for us? What effect does sound have upon the scene? Where do you find visualized vs. acousmatic sounds employed? Any elements of rendering — empathetic vs. anempathetic sounds? Synchresis? Apparent microphone distances? If sounds were absent, would there be an appreciable difference in our reading of the scene? Note the various concepts and sonic vocabulary terms introduced in “The Ways of Sound” presentation — do you see any of these being employed here?
