Theme: Dictators and Mental Illness
Length: minimum 1100 words (including everything from the title page, abstract, body of essay, and references).
Format: APA (with title page, abstract, running header, in-text citations, and References page). Be sure to note the differences in formatting for APA and MLA. For the abstract, write a one paragraph summary of the paper. No key words are necessary.
Sources: 4 (minimum): 2 scholarly, 2 A/B/C -level academic sources (See Veracity scale).
POV: 3rd person. Avoid 1st and 2nd person
Assignment: Research Joseph Stalin and his actions during his reign suggest the presence of mental illness Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Discuss this tyrants life, diagnose the tyrant with PTSD, and then compare this tyrant to Macbeth. Separate the different sections with headings.
Begin with an introductionend the intro with a thesis statement.
Investigate your subjects life by focusing on the following categories: early life and his/her rise to power, his/her actions while in power (specifically how he/she exhibited tyrannical behavior), his/her death/downfall/legacy. Each of these can be under a separate heading.
Then, identify and describe one or more mental illnesses from the list below that you believe your subject experienced and that contributed to his/her actions. Outline the illness, describing the history, symptoms, treatment. Then describe explain how and why this figure suffered from this illness, based on his/her actions.
Next, include a section that compares/contrasts this figures mental state with that of Macbeth or Lady Macbeth. Be sure to provide sufficient insight and analysis in this section. You can end the paper with this section.
You should break this essay into six sections represented by headings (you choose an appropriate name for each heading). Each section should be at minimum one full paragraph, though you will want some of the sections to be significantly longer. You choose the spacing for the headings (aligned left or centered), but be uniform throughout. Include the following sections in this order:
Introduction (ending with a thesis statement that connects the subjects actions as dictator with his/her mental illness Macbeth)
Early life and rise to power
Actions while in powerbe sure to include examples of actions you believe signify mental illness
Death/downfall and legacy. If the subject is still alive, discuss likely legacy.
Identify and provide overview of the mental illnesssymptoms, treatment, societal impact. Then explain how/why you believe the dictator suffered from this mental illness. Provide significant detail in this section. Include both examples of the subjects actions, expert analysis, and source material relevant to the mental illness. Be sure to support this section with sufficient research.
Compare/contrast this figures actions and mental state with that of Macbeth or Lady Macbeth.
