This extra credit assignment is designed to get you to look at the kinds of anthropology news that make it into the popular media and why these bits of news are important in their own right. You may choose from any of the four fields of anthropology.
Directions: Go to one of the websites listed below, another news-related website or find an anthropology article in a magazine or newspaper. You may use anthropology news you see on the news, but you cannot use specials on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, or the like this isnt news its entertainment.
The news article you pick MUST be on an anthropological topic related to cultural anthropology, past cultures, or contemporary cultures. When you find an article you want to use, you should read it and save it as a pdf to attach to your write up.
Then, type an 800 word (with a word-count added to receive credit) summary and analysis of this article. Your summary should be 12-point font and 1 margins. A heading, title, and bibliography do not count toward the page minimum. In the write-up, you should
(1) Summarize the article that youve read.
(2) Describe why you found it interesting (so, yes, you need to pick an article you find interesting)
(3) Analyze the article. Why is it important enough to be in the news? In your analysis you should discuss which of the principles of anthropology (from the lecture and book) this article demonstrates.
You must address all three points above (summary, description and analysis) in a coherent, logical manner AND turn in a copy of the article to get full credit on this assignment. You MUST USE YOUR OWN WORDS in the write-up (this includes the summary and shows that you read and understood the article).
