A final 10-15 (at least) page written assessment report (double spaced/1″ margins) will be submitted that reports on the below aspects of the assessment process. You should pull from your assessment action plan each part and expand on your reasoning for the plan and decisions made for each section.
Remember, in the end, this is a paper in which you are bringing together all elements of the work you have done. This means that you must provide the reader with an introduction, an understanding of what the ESR includes, and at least a general understanding of the importance of assessment.
All sections need a transition as in regular papers. Thus, you should be thinking about transition paragraphs or Intro paragraphs under each section. Something like “The following section focuses on….the main points that will be discussed are…”
The report should include a rationale behind almost every decision that you have made. To support your decision, please reference best practices and/or theory.
Implications and Recommendations should reference the “Bigger Picture” how do the results impact the work that folks are trying to accomplish? How do the results impact the institutions’ goal attainment or the divisions’ goal attainment?
The Executive Summary Report should include the following:
Introduction to Assessment-at least a general understanding of assessment, the framework you used to develop the assessment plan an understanding of best practices that you used to develop the plan/make decisions.
The philosophy behind the reason(s) for choosing the service or program (cite best practices). This should be a short lit review. In other words, why is it important to assess the topic (program)?
Mission Statement (Pull from your ACP but provide the rationale for any changes
Goals (Pull from your ACP but provide the rationale for any changes)
Introduction of Program or Service should be linked to Division Mission, College Mission Statement and Strategic Plan
State Learning Outcomes (Pull rationale from your ACP. Cite CAS standards, or reason for Learning Outcome) Why are these learning outcomes of particular importance for best practices and the specific institution?
At least a brief understanding of methods used (cite references, pull from ACP indicate rationale.
Analysis/findings (Is there a theory that supports the importance of findings?)
Limitations
Implications and Recommendations (Provide in detail the impact results may have if the program/service is neglected, or if improved the impact it may have on student learning. Reference the larger purpose of assessment. How does the learning experience contribute to the larger division, institution goals? (cite current research/theory that supports recommendations. Look at CAS standards recommendations). Do the outcomes suggest the institution is meeting best practices?
