A close reading of Kuspit’s Avant-Guarde and Audience and Greenberg’s Avant-Guarde and Kitsch. Relate the readings to F. T. Marinetti’s “Futurist Serate” and “Zang Tumb Tuuum” (that I will support with his “The Variety Theatre Manifesto”) and Marcel Duchamp’s readymade works, focusing on “Fountain” and “The Three Standard Stoppages” (that I will support with his essential writings, “The Creative Act” and “Apropos of “Readymades””). Through the theorized claims of Kuspit and Greenberg, explore Marinetti’s and Duchamp’s role in the progression of the avant-guarde.
