We pay a lot of attention to the idea of diversity in our society. In the US, and in Europe, there is a rise of ″cultural″ warriors that see Muslim immigrants as threats, and in the US, immigration from south of the border consumes an entire political party in this nation. ″Make America Great Again″ is a direct marketing program designed to place fear into the hearts of ignoramuses all throughout this nation, and it worked on 74 million of us! Oh, and let′s not forget that between 2008-2016, we had a president that threatened people′s notion of what a president looks like, and the last president campaigned for all those years that President Obama wasn′t born in the US. However, Jose Antonio Burciaga makes huge arguments that diversity has enhanced humanity. For him personally, to us as a nation, Burciaga tracks and mentions how we have benefitted from diversity, and at the same time, how stifling diversity, either through appropriation of a culture, or laws banning diversity (like segregation in this country), or revising history to cut out contributions from marginalized groups actually hurts us and our understanding of our world.
