Infants and toddlers with delays or disabilities need to focus on five Developmental Areas. The federal governments identify fourteen (you will also find thirteen) disabilities that states are required to provide service. The thirteen are: Chart of 14 Disabilities recognizes for Children through IDEA 1. Autism 2. Deaf-Blindness 3. Deafness Developmental Delay 4. Emotional Disturbance 5. Hearing Impairment Intellectual Disability Multiple Disabilities 7. Hearing Impairment 8. Orthopedic Impairment 9. Speech or Language 10. Traumatic Brain Injury 11. Visual Impairment, including Blindness 12. Specific Learning Disability 13. Orthopedic Impairments 14. Other Health Impairment – Chose from one of these areas to begin gathering information for your final. -Use the Developmental Domains for support -Use Milestones either by CDC or other websites. For your final, you will compile a report based on one of the fourteen disabilities for an infant or toddler. Just before the midterm is due, you will be asked to identify a disability, you will author a report. By October 10th, you need to decide on a disability. For example, if you are doing speech you may want to narrow that down to Articulation or Fluency, or voice, inability to follow directions, for example. You will use the assignments you will be working on throughout the second half of the semester to support your work. – You will write your paper based on the disability you have chosen.
