This essay will be an in-depth analysis of one or two of the primary works read during the term. You will choose your topic from the list below. While outside research is not required, you may use secondary sources. Proper research techniques and citation will be discussed in class. Proper MLA-style citation is required for the essay. All sources cited or consulted should be referenced. All of the works we have studied portray the importance (to one degree or another) of a properly functioning community. Analyze one or two works in terms of this focus. You will need to develop a thesis that explains exactly what constitutes a functioning (or nonfunctioning) community in the works, and why the texts portray community in this way.
