A Reflective Writing assignment is to demonstrate to the professor that you have developed a comprehensive understanding of the materials presented so far, have gained a broader awareness of the topics discussed and personally gained a new perspective with a meaningful take away from the course thus far.

Reflection Writing Steps:

Description: Record the lesson, discussion or class event. This can be any topic that we have discussed, however it needs to relate or show the emphasis on the study of the criminal behavior. What was the situation? What have we discussed? We has the class talked about? What has the class watched or listened to? Use your previous writing discussions to answer this question.
Consider/think about: What were your reactions or feelings at the time? What was it about the event that drew out these feelings? Why? When I read/heard about this I was (feelings, thoughts) I felt that the… I was unhappy about… It seems unfair… “I enjoyed..”
Analyze, evaluate: What was really going on? What sense can you make of the situation? Can you integrate theory into the experience? Can you demonstrate an improved awareness because of the event? Reason through this experience.
Conclusions: What can be concluded from this experience and the analyses from your observation? What is your key take-away? Why does it matter (i.e., the so what question)? The is a conclusion on the data/info that we discussed/learned/researched.
Action: What are you going to do, think or act differently because of this knowledge? What steps are you going to take based on what you learned?
