In this final major section, interpret and explain what the results mean to the reader of your research. Describe the relevance and significance of your overall findings. Start this section by restating your research purposes and summarizing the results in layperson’s terms leaving out statistics. Then, proceed to explain the following in separate subsections:
Theoretical Implications: Compare and contrast the results with those you reported in your literature review. Point out any results that are surprising or inconsistent with previous research and provide a possible explanation. State how the findings support or expand a previous theory or form a new theory. If applicable, highlight how the results contribute to the communication discipline.
Practical Implications: This is a critical part of this entire research project! Provide recommendations for Reboot and/ or youth ministries on what actions they should perform. Make sure not to overgeneralize; Your recommendations must be supported by your findings and relevant to your research topic.
Limitations: Describe the limitations (i.e., methodological weaknesses) of your study that might affect the interpretations and applicability of your results. These may include any drawbacks in your sample size, sampling method, measurement, validity and reliability, trustworthiness and dependability, etc. Note that there are flaws in every scientific study and we need to be transparent about them.
Directions for Future Research: Suggest specific ideas for future research. Think about how the limitations in this study can be overcome in future studies. Also, offer research ideas that can provide deeper insight into some aspects of your research topic.
