Write your creative artist statement.
Using your responses to the Manifesto/Values assignment, fusing them with the Creative Artist Statement Part I, compose an artist statement that communicates who you are as a practitioner, what you care about, how your work fits into a lineage of other practices—the possibilities here are nearly endless. This could look like many things, including a first-person narrative, a research piece, a story about someone else…it’s up to you to decide.
The purpose of this activity is to generate the type of information one might gain in an artist statement, but without rooting yourself in the usual artist-speak or meaningless language typically used in artist statements. How can we be expansive about writing about our own practices—our methods, media, our history, etc—using language to explore why we make art?
