In this course we studied the Stanford Prison Experiment and Phil Zimbardos later theory on the Lucifer Effect. First, please explain how what happened in the Stanford Prison Experiment and what Zimbardo found relative to the causes of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal were the same. Stated differently, Zimbardo said these two events suggest there is something that happens to people when they are placed in particular situations of power. Explain all this and then why this might be relevant to what happens in modern day prisons.
We studied the public health model approach to corrections. We discussed why some people believe a public health organization would be better suited to operate correctional facilities. Please explain in detail the argument for a public health approach to corrections and whether you agree or disagree with this.
We studied tent city and discussed some of the controversial things that were done at this facility. Please detail what things were done that were controversial/different than what other correctional facilities tend to do and whether you agree or disagree with Joe Arpaios approach to corrections.
We studied the conditions inside supermax prisons. Do you see any problems with supermax or do you think everything is as it should be for this type of offender. Please state your position and defend it.
We studied faith based units in prison and also discussed the constitutional questions that surround them. Please detail what constitutional challenges arise when we create faith based units.
