pick a product. It can be anything. Look around you. It can be something on your desk, something you use, something you see outside.. pick something that interest you. You are now the supply chain director of the company that produces that product. Every class I will give you items to work on. At the end of the class you will give me, as the board of director member of your company, a presentation on your supply chain strategy. Your work can be turned in as a presentation (either recorded or in class on the date of the final exam), a role play, essay …. the format is up to you. Be creative. I will add questions weekly on what needs to be covered. This assignment is intended to help you apply learned theoretical knowledge to a real product and business setting. Questions to answer Make sure to explain your companies strategy and how that impacts your supply chain strategy. Examples are : are you focused on price? Quality? outsourcing as much as possible etc. Chapter 1: Use the example from chapter 1 and map your value chain/supply chain for the product you picked (Slide 27 in Chapter 1 ppt.) Chapter 2: Are you going to use cross-functional sourcing teams? For what and why? What purchases are you making in your company (services, raw material, semi finished goods) – reference your supply chain map you made. Chapter 3: What policies and procedures are you implementing (pick the 3 most important ones)? Why are those important to your company? Chapter 4: Are you going to integrate your suppliers? What internal integration is important to you? Make sure you relate that back to your product and strategy. Chapter 5: Are you going for a centralized or decentralized supply chain set up? Make sure you explain WHY. Where in the reporting structure does supply chain stand? Make sure it connects with your corporate strategy. Chapter 6: Are you using competitive bidding and/or negotiation? Why? How will you create shareholder value? Take one of the categories (reference you supply chain map) and create a SWOT analysis or Porter′s five forces model Chapter 7: Are you using single or multiple sources? Chapter 8: Are you requiring your suppliers to be ISO certified? Which certification and why? Chapter 9: What system are you using to measure the performance of your suppliers? Develop an example that includes your most important categories. What are the risks your are facing in your supply chain. Prepare a risk assessment. Chapter 10: Are you using offshoring, re-shoring or near-shoring? What countries and what are your barriers and risks and how to you overcome them? Include them in your risk assessment. Chapter 11: What are the current economic conditions in your market? How are you planning to analyze your suppliers costs? Chapter 12: What projects will you be confronted with in your supply chain? Are your suppliers a candidate for learning curve application? Chapter 13: Why would you negotiate with your suppliers? What countries will you be most likely confronted with? How do you prepare? Give an example and prepare a bargaining zone example for at least 1 supplier and 3 items and positions. Chapter 14: What kind of contract are you most likely going to enter into? Fixed price or cost based contracts? Which one? Chapter 15: How do you ensure that your team and your suppliers follow ethical principals? Chapter 16: How much inventory are you carrying? Is your strategy low inventory or high inventories? How do you ensure adequate inventory to ensure supply chain stability? Chapter 17: what supply chain services are you purchasing?Any? What is your strategy for logistics services? Chapter 18: What supply chain systems are you most likely going to use?
