1. Identify the two intervention approaches you are comparing – particularly noting the reason for your choice and noting issues of efficacy, usefulness, and values. Discuss their relevance to the population with whom you are currently working in your field placement. What does the research indicate in terms of effectiveness of these treatment methods with this population? Would you consider each intervention an evidence-based practice approach? Why or why not? Include an appropriate treatment plan for one or both of the intervention methods you are discussing. How might each plan differ according to the approach that you take with a client or client system? NOTE: Students must choose at least one intervention that has not been a primary focus of lecture material (ie. CBT, MI or SFT).
2. Discuss the ways that you have or have not incorporated these interventions in your practice use (please disguise any case material). On what did you base your decisions for their use? Discuss any ideas that you might have about how to evaluate your own practice of these interventions. Use excerpts of process recordings wherever possible.
3. In exploring these two approaches, how does the use of self differ using each? What aspects of transference/countertransference are evident in their use with clients? How are concepts of empowerment and client strengths incorporated within the approaches?
