Masculine identity. How are men or the concept of ″the male″ represented in the primary sources? What do primary sources identify as the essential and unchanging characteristics of men? How are men supposed to act and what sort of social roles are men prescribed in the sources? How is this affected by issues of class, race, and nation? How did the representation of men in the sources contribute to or undermine existing social hierarchies and/or ways of thinking?
